Mittuniversitet i projekt att snabbt få igång distansutbildning för lärare

Jag hittade länken till projektets hemsida. Projektet finansieras av SPIDER och leds av Bengt Nykvist. Som lärplattform används Moodle. Mittuniversitetet bidrar med kompetens inom IT-stödd lärarutbildning på distans. Det handlar om hur interaktion och kommunikation hanteras på Internet och om hur Internetbaserade kurser skall utformas för att bli framgångsrika. I de skolor som inte har tillgång till Internet och datorer kommer mobiltelefoner att användas i stället. Projektet finansieras av SPIDER (Swedish Program for ICT in Developing Regions).
Det skulle vara intressant att höra Bengt prata om läget i Tanzania både där det gäller: IKT allmänt, mobil lärande och hur det fungerar med Moodle kursen.

EU Report on policy coherence for development

På dg communitites hemsida hittade jag denna rapport som beskrevs nedan
‘Policies other than development cooperation have a strong impact on developing countries. The European Union (EU) concept of Policy Coherence for Development (PCD) aims to build synergies between those policies and development objectives. This in turn will increase the effectiveness of development aid. Against the backcloth of the EU commitment to substantially increase official development assistance, the importance of ensuring that these resources are not rendered inefficient or wasted by policy incoherence is even greater.
The aim of this report is to shed some light on progress made by the EU in promoting a higher degree of coherence between the main policies that affect developing countries as well as to identify the main outstanding issues to be considered for further action.’

Jag tror att en blogg kan vara av hjälp i en organisation. Detta är något som vi kommer att diskutera nästa vecka men jag vill passa på att lägga in några adresser till intressanta blogg exempel. Det första är från Umeå unversitets pedagogiska centrum.. UPCs blogg är för personalen. De turas om med ansvar för skrivandet. En annan typ blog är en ”rektorsblogg” som Mittuniversitetets rektor skriver.

På den Eldis Community hemsidan kom jag på denna video bland hemsidans blogg om ”Video for development”. Video handlar om en pilot projekt i Etiopien om den One laptop per child projekt. Det är intressant att se hur det fungerar i praktiken.

Min ingång då det gäller IKT har varit genom utbildning men jag kan inte låta bli att fascineras av andra områden där IKT håller erbjudar möjligheter. Nyligen kom jag över en artikel om mobilteknologier för utvecklingen av hållbar hälsåvård. Det påpekades att för nuvararande bor 80% av världens befolkning i områden som täcks av mobilnätet. Det förväntas att siffron ska stega till 85% i 2010. Under konferensen Accra – What next? fick jag chansen att lyssna till Rakesh Rajanis föreläsning med titeln Citizen Agency and public accountability-roles of CSOs. Han kommer från en organisation som heter Twaweza i Tanzania. Som jag förstod hans budskap var det CSs uppgift att tillåta medborgarna att engagera sig i vardagslivet och att målet skulle vara att stärka medborgarna istället för organisationerna själva. Han gav exempel på en verksamhet som blev på något sätt underminerat av en organisations krav på professionalism. Det tog kraft från något som hade fungerat bra på grassroots nivå.

Han pratade också om vikten av: information, media och ”monitoring”. Det sistnämnda såg han inte som en byråkratisk exercis men istället som något som medborgarna gör själva. Jag råkade komma över ett verktyg som utvecklades i Kenya under oroligheter efter valet i början av året. Människor uppmanades att skicka in information om incidenter, bland annat via sms. Ushahidi in the Field

Ushahidi was a simple website mashup, using user-generated reports and Google Maps, created to

gather citizen generated crisis information after the post-election violence in Kenya. Below are

some of the countries and projects that are using the first generation of the Ushahidi Engine:

• Congo (DRC): Deployment to the DRC Congo happened on Nov 7, 2008 – the week

• after our initial release of the alpha version of the new Ushahidi Engine software.

• Kenya: The initial mashup, used to track reports of incidents of violence around Kenya.

• South Africa: Used to map xenophobic attacks perpetrated against non-South Africans.

Pilot Projects

We have rebuilt the engine from the ground up as a free and open source platform that anyone

can download, or host with us. Private alpha deployments start in September 2008, where we

will focus on projects hosted on our own servers.

Sista tiden har jag börjat använda RSS feeds allt oftare. RSS är en förkortning för Really Simple Syndication. Genom att använda RSS kan du minska antal steg som du använder att komma till dina favorita sajter. Titta på denna video om RSS om du inte redan har börjat att använda det. I video föreslås Google reader för att läsa RSS feeds. Jag använder Netvibes (http://www.netvibes.com/#General).
